- Choose the page. A4 or Letter, narrow, normal or wide margins, a text size, and the Clean, Serif or Dark style.
- Press Save as PDF. Your browser's print window opens with only the document in it.
- Pick Save as PDF as the destination. Untick headers and footers, then save. The steps for your browser are listed under the tool.
Save a ChatGPT answer as a PDF
Under each ChatGPT answer there's a copy button. It copies the answer as Markdown, which is exactly what this tool reads, so headings, bold text, numbered lists and tables come through as they looked in the chat. Formulas that ChatGPT writes between \[ \] or \( \) are drawn as proper maths.
If you select part of an answer with the mouse instead, the clipboard holds formatted text. Paste it anyway: the editor turns the formatting back into Markdown and tells you it did. Citation markers in an answer are kept as text, so remove any you don't want before saving.
Claude answers to PDF
Claude's copy button under a reply, and the copy option on a document in the side panel, both give you Markdown. Paste it here and the structure is kept, including code blocks with their language, which are printed with light syntax colours in a monospace font. Long code lines wrap in the PDF instead of running off the page.
Gemini answers to PDF
Copy a Gemini response with its copy button and paste it into the editor. Whether the clipboard holds Markdown or formatted text, the headings, lists and tables are kept. Gemini can also export to Google Docs; this is the quicker route when you only want a PDF and would rather the text didn't pass through another app.
Differences between browsers
| Browser | What to know |
|---|---|
| Chrome, Edge, Brave | Follow the page size and margins set here. Tick Background graphics for the Dark style. |
| Firefox | Follows the page size; tick Print backgrounds for the Dark style. |
| Safari on a Mac | Save as PDF is in the PDF menu at the bottom left. Choose the paper size in the print window if it differs. |
| iPhone and iPad | Pinch out on the print preview or use Share, then Save to Files. |
Try it with an example
The example has a budget table, a checklist, a formula, a Gantt chart and a code snippet: the parts that most often go wrong when an AI answer is printed straight from the browser. Load it, switch to Letter or the Serif style, and save it.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| The whole web page prints, not just the document | Use the Save as PDF button on this page rather than the browser menu before the preview has loaded. |
| Dark style prints white | Turn on Background graphics (Chrome, Edge) or Print backgrounds (Firefox). |
| Wide table is cut off | Choose Narrow margins or a smaller text size, or split the table in two. |
| Tiny text on a phone | That's the preview being scaled to fit. The PDF itself uses the text size you chose. |
Frequently asked questions
Is the text in the PDF selectable and searchable?
Yes. The PDF is made by your browser's own print engine from real text, not from a screenshot, so you can select, search and copy it. Mermaid diagrams are embedded as vector graphics and stay sharp at any zoom.
Why does it open a print window instead of downloading a file?
Browsers already contain an excellent PDF writer, and it's only reachable through the print window. Using it keeps the text real, handles every language and font, and means nothing has to be uploaded to a server to make the file. Choose Save as PDF as the destination.
Will a table or code block be cut in half between pages?
Code blocks, table rows, diagrams and formulas are kept together where they fit on one page, and headings stay with the paragraph after them. A code block or table longer than a whole page still has to continue on the next one; table headers repeat on each page.
Why do I see the date and web address at the top of the page?
Those are the browser's headers and footers. Untick Headers and footers (Chrome, Edge) or Print headers and footers (Firefox, Safari) in the print window. The browser remembers the choice next time.
What does the PDF file get called?
The first heading of your document, for example "Quarterly planning notes.pdf". Add a # heading at the top to choose the name, or rename the file in the save window.
Is my document sent anywhere?
No. The page is drawn and printed on your device. The draft is kept in your browser's storage so it's still here after a reload, shared with the Markdown viewer; you can delete it with one click.
