How to rotate an image
- Add your photos. Drop them on the box, choose them, or paste with Ctrl+V.
- Pick the turn. Use Rotate left or Rotate right, or pick 90°, 180° or 270°. Add a horizontal or vertical flip if you need one. The preview updates straight away.
- Download. Save each photo, or all of them as a zip. The width and height swap for 90° and 270° turns.
Which way each option turns
| Option | What happens | A 4000 × 3000 photo becomes |
|---|---|---|
| 90° (rotate right) | A quarter turn clockwise | 3000 × 4000 |
| 180° | Upside down | 4000 × 3000 |
| 270° (rotate left) | A quarter turn anticlockwise | 3000 × 4000 |
| Flip horizontal | Mirrored left to right | 4000 × 3000 |
| Flip vertical | Mirrored top to bottom | 4000 × 3000 |
Format and quality
By default each photo keeps its format: a PNG stays a PNG and a JPG stays a JPG. GIF, BMP and iPhone HEIC files can't be written by a browser, so they are saved as PNG when they have see-through areas and JPG otherwise. Animated GIFs keep only their first frame.
The saved file contains only the picture. Camera details and GPS location from the original are not copied, and the orientation note is no longer needed because the pixels themselves are turned.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my photo show sideways on some websites?
Phones save photos the way the sensor sees them and add a note saying which way is up. Most apps read that note, but some websites and older programs ignore it. This tool turns the pixels themselves, so the photo looks right everywhere.
Does rotating reduce quality?
Rotating by quarter turns moves pixels without blurring them. PNG files stay exactly the same. JPG and WebP are compressed again when saved, at 92% quality by default, which is very hard to tell apart from the original.
What's the difference between flipping and rotating?
Rotating turns the picture around its centre, so text stays readable but faces a new direction. Flipping mirrors it, so text reads backwards. Flip horizontal fixes mirrored selfies; flip vertical turns a photo upside down as a reflection.
Can I rotate many photos at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; the same rotation and flip apply to all of them, and you can download them one by one or as a zip.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device, so private photos stay private.
