How to count down to a date
- Pick the date. Use the date picker, or type the date. A name is optional and shows above the countdown.
- Add a time if it matters. Without one, the countdown runs to midnight at the start of the day.
- Choose a time zone for events elsewhere. Leave it on your time zone for your own plans. Pick the event's zone for a launch, a match or a call in another country.
- Copy the link. It opens the same countdown on any phone or computer, and keeps working after you close this page.
How the countdown counts
Calendar days. Today is day 0 and the target date is the last day counted, the same rule as the date calculator. From a Sunday to the next Friday is 5 days.
The live clock. Days, hours, minutes and seconds of real time left. When the clocks change for summer time in between, it is an hour shorter or longer than the wall clock suggests, because that hour is skipped or repeated.
Working days. Monday to Friday, by default the full days between today and the target date. Tick the box to count today and the end date as well, as some deadlines do.
Time zones. 9:00 am on March 1, 2027 in New York is 2 pm in London and 7:30 pm in India. Pick America/New_York and everyone with the link counts down to that same moment.
Examples
Counting from Sunday, October 11, 2026:
| Counting down to | Calendar days | Working days in between | Including both ends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas Day | 75 | 54 | 55 |
| New Year's Day | 82 | 59 | 60 |
| A deadline on Friday, October 30 | 19 | 14 | 15 |
| A trip on July 1, 2027 | 263 | 188 | 189 |
Today here is a Sunday, so counting both ends adds only the end date when it is a weekday.
Tips for countdowns and deadlines
Check what a deadline means by a day. “Within 10 business days” and “by the 10th” are counted differently. The guide to business days and calendar days goes through the common rules.
Off by one? Two people counting the days to the same date can both be right if one counts today and the other doesn't. See how to count days between two dates.
Bookmark the link, not the page. The copied link carries your date, time, zone and name, so it brings back your countdown.

Frequently asked questions
How do I share a countdown?
Fill in the date (and a time and name if you like), then press Copy link. The link holds the details in the address, so anyone who opens it sees the same countdown. Nothing is stored on a server.
Does the days count include today?
No. Today is day 0, so tomorrow is 1 day away. That is the usual answer to “how many days until”. The working days count the Mondays to Fridays after today and before the end date, unless you tick the box to count both.
Why does the clock show one day less than the days count?
The clock counts real time left. At 3 pm, a date two days away is 1 day and 9 hours away on the clock, but 2 calendar days away. Both are correct; they measure different things.
What happens after the date has passed?
The clock keeps going and counts up, labelled “Time since”, so you can also use it to see how long ago something happened.
Which time zone does it use?
Your device's own, unless you pick another. Pick the event's time zone for something that happens at one moment everywhere, such as a launch or an online meeting, and the countdown and shared link point to that moment for everyone.
Are public holidays taken out of the working days?
No, because they differ by country and region. Subtract any that fall before your date. The holiday countdowns linked below show the dates of the common ones.
