How to resize a video

  1. Add the video. Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file.
  2. Pick the size. 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, 1:1 square, 4:5 portrait feed, 16:9 widescreen, or type your own.
  3. Choose the framing. "Fit whole video" adds a blurred or coloured background. "Fill and crop" fills the frame; drag the preview, or focus it and use the arrow keys, to choose what stays in view.
  4. Resize and download. Watch the result on the page, then download it.

Examples

  • A landscape phone clip for a Reel: 9:16 with "Fill and crop" keeps about a third of the width; drag to keep the person in view. If two people stand far apart, use "Fit whole video" with a blurred background instead.
  • A vertical video for YouTube: 16:9 with a blurred background avoids black bars.
  • A screen recording for LinkedIn or X: 1:1 with a white or black background keeps text readable.

Common problems

  • The app crops my video again: apps place buttons over the edges of vertical video. Keep important things in the middle when you crop.
  • It takes a while: every frame is redrawn and re-encoded. Trim the video first if you only need part of it.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Reel, Short or TikTok?

All three are vertical 9:16 video, and 1080 × 1920 pixels is the standard full-quality size for them. That's why they share one preset here. Each app may also crop the edges with its own buttons and captions, so keep faces and text away from the very top and bottom.

Should I fit or crop?

Fit keeps the whole picture and fills the empty space with a blurred copy of the video or a colour. Use it when everything in the frame matters, like a slide or a group photo. Crop fills the frame completely and cuts off the sides; it looks more native in vertical feeds, and you can drag the picture to keep the important part in view.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Each frame is redrawn and encoded inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Does resizing lower the quality?

The video has to be re-encoded, which costs a little detail, and the tool uses a generous bitrate to keep that small. Making a small video larger, for example 480p to 1080 × 1920, can't add detail that isn't there; it just makes the pixels bigger.

Is the sound kept?

Yes. The sound is copied across unchanged when the format allows, otherwise it's re-encoded at high quality.
