How to convert HEIC to JPG
- Add your HEIC photos. Drop them on the box or choose them. On an iPhone, pick them from Files; photos chosen from the Photos library are often converted to JPG by iOS already.
- Choose JPG or PNG. JPG is right for almost everyone. Set the quality if you need smaller files.
- Download. Save each photo, or all of them as a zip. Files that fail say why, and the rest still convert.

Stop your iPhone saving HEIC
Open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG. Photos take up more space, so many people keep High Efficiency and convert only the ones they need to share.
To have the iPhone convert when copying to a computer, go to Settings, Photos and, under Transfer to Mac or PC, choose Automatic.
Good to know
Safari on a Mac or iPhone can open HEIC files itself, but this page uses the same decoder in every browser so the results match. A Live Photo is converted to its still image. If a file holds several images, the first one is saved.
Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos when the camera is set to High Efficiency, which is the default. Apple says it can take up to half the space of a JPG at the same quality, but Windows, Android and many websites can't open it without help.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The converter runs inside your browser. The photos are decoded and saved as JPG on your own device and never sent anywhere.
Why is the first photo slower?
The HEIC decoder is about 1.3 MB, so it is only downloaded when you add your first HEIC file. After that, each photo takes a second or two depending on its size and your device.
A file says it couldn't be converted. What can I do?
The file may be damaged, or use a HEIC variant the decoder doesn't support. On a Mac, open it in Photos and use File, Export to save a JPEG. For future photos, set the iPhone camera to Most Compatible (see below).
Are the date and location kept?
No. The JPG contains the picture only, without the camera details, date or GPS location from the original. That's safer for sharing, but keep the originals if you rely on that information.
