How to sign a PDF online
- Add the PDF. Drop it on the box or choose it. The first page opens large, with every page as a small preview below.
- Make your signature. Draw it with a mouse, finger or pen, type your name and pick a handwriting style, or choose a photo or scan of your signature.
- Place it. Press Place on page, then drag it into position and drag the round corner to resize. Add the date the same way if the form asks for one.
- Download. Press Sign and download. You get a new PDF ending in -signed; the original file is not changed.
What this tool does, and what it doesn't
It adds a visual electronic signature: your signature as a picture with a see-through background, drawn onto the page where you put it, at the size you chose. Dates are added as real text, so they stay sharp and can be searched. The rest of the PDF is copied as it is, so text stays selectable and the file only grows by the size of the signature image, usually well under 100 KB.
It does not add a certificate-based digital signature. That kind of signature needs a certificate issued to you, from a certifying authority, and proves who signed and that the file wasn't changed afterwards. In India, the IT Act recognises digital signature certificates (DSC) and Aadhaar eSign for this, and the MCA21 portal says every company and LLP filing must be signed with a DSC (checked on mca.gov.in, 10 October 2026). For filings like these, sign with the portal or your DSC software instead.
Which signature to use
| Document | Works well | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rental agreement, school or consent form | Drawn or photo signature, with the date | Looks closest to your pen signature |
| Offer letter or NDA sent by email | Drawn or typed signature | Ask whether a signature image is accepted |
| Multi-page contract | Initials on every page, signature on the last | Use Copy to every page for the initials |
| Company or LLP filing on MCA21 | Not suitable | Needs a DSC, applied through the portal |
Tips for a clean signature
Photo of a signature: sign with a dark pen on plain white paper and take the photo in daylight, straight from above. Keep Remove the white background on, so only the ink is placed and the page shows through.
Size: a handwritten signature is usually 4 to 6 cm wide, about a fifth to a quarter of the width of an A4 page (21 cm). Much larger looks odd when printed.
Need the signature file itself for an exam or job form? Signature resizer makes it the exact pixel size and KB those forms ask for.
Frequently asked questions
Is a signature added this way legally valid?
For many everyday documents, such as rental forms, consent letters, delivery notes and offer letters, a picture of your signature is accepted, and laws such as the US ESIGN Act and the EU eIDAS rules recognise simple electronic signatures. It proves less than a certificate-based signature, so for anything important, check what the person or office asking for it accepts.
Is this a digital signature (DSC)?
No. It places an image of your signature on the page. A digital signature certificate (DSC) or Aadhaar eSign adds cryptographic data that proves who signed and shows if the file changed afterwards. Portals that ask for one, such as company filings on India's MCA21 portal, won't accept a signature image.
Is my signature uploaded or stored?
No. The PDF and your signature are read and combined by your browser on this device. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is saved after you close the page, so draw or upload it again next time.
How do I sign on my phone?
Choose Draw and sign with your finger in the box. Tap Place on page, then drag the signature into place and pull the round corner to resize it. Use Previous page and Next page, or the page previews, to move between pages.
Can I sign every page or add initials?
Yes. Place a signature, select it, and press Copy to every page to put it in the same spot on all pages. For initials, draw or type them as a second signature and place that one too. Each placement can be moved separately.
