How to convert a PDF to JPG

  1. Add your PDF. Drop it on the box or choose it. Every page appears as a preview, all selected.
  2. Choose format and resolution. Pick JPG or PNG and 72, 150 or 300 DPI. Click pages to leave them out, or type the pages you want, such as 1-3, 6.
  3. Convert. One page downloads as an image. Several pages download together in a zip file.

Image sizes for common pages

DPI means dots per inch: how many pixels each inch of the page becomes. The image size in pixels is the page size in inches times the DPI.

Very large pages, such as posters, are kept under about 16 megapixels per image so phones can create them. The tool tells you when it had to do that.

What the images look like

Pages are drawn the way a PDF viewer shows them, including fonts, vector drawings, form field values and comments that are visible on the page, on a white background. JPG images are saved at 92% quality, high enough that the compression is hard to spot. Text in the images is a picture, so it can't be selected or searched.

Tips

Need a smaller image for a form? Convert at 150 DPI, then use Compress image to reach an exact size such as 100 KB.

Want the pages as a PDF instead? Extract PDF pages keeps text selectable and is usually smaller than images.

Frequently asked questions

Which resolution should I pick?

150 DPI suits most uses: sharing in chat, slides and reading on screen. 300 DPI is for printing or zooming into small print, and makes images four times as large in pixels. 72 DPI gives small previews.

JPG or PNG?

JPG makes smaller files and is best for scans and photos. PNG keeps text and thin lines perfectly crisp and supports any colour exactly, but the files are larger, often several times so.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Each page is drawn by your browser on your device and saved as an image there. Nothing is sent to a server.

How do I get all pages at once?

All pages are selected when you open a file. Press Convert and you get a zip file with one image per page, named after the PDF and the page number.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

If the PDF opens without asking for a password and only has printing or copying restrictions, yes. If it asks for a password to open, save an unlocked copy in your PDF reader first.
