How to resize a video for TikTok

  1. Add your video. Any phone or camera video works: MP4, MOV and most other formats.
  2. Leave 9:16 selected. That's TikTok's vertical size, 1080 × 1920 pixels.
  3. Choose Fit or Crop. Fit keeps everything and fills the space with a blurred copy of the video or a colour. Crop fills the frame; drag the picture to choose what stays in view.
  4. Resize and save. Check the preview, then save the new video and upload it to TikTok as usual.

Converting a square or horizontal clip to 9:16 here means it fills the screen like a native TikTok. For Reels and YouTube Shorts the same 9:16 size works; the main video resizer also does square, 4:5 and 16:9.

Keep the important part out of the way

TikTok draws its own buttons along the right edge and the caption, sound name and progress bar near the bottom. Keep faces, product shots and on-screen text in the middle of the frame, a little above the centre, so nothing important sits under them.

When you crop a horizontal video, drag the picture to follow the person or the action. If two people are far apart in a wide shot, use Fit with a blurred background instead, so neither gets cut off.

Private and free

Your video never leaves your device: every frame is redrawn and encoded in this browser tab. There's no watermark, no account and no limit on how many videos you resize.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a TikTok video be?

Vertical 9:16, and 1080 × 1920 pixels is the usual full-quality size. That's what this page makes by default. TikTok also plays square and horizontal videos, but it shows them with empty space above and below, so they look small in the feed.

Can I post a horizontal video on TikTok without black bars?

Yes. Choose Crop to fill the 9:16 frame and drag the picture so the important part stays in view, or keep Fit with a blurred background, which fills the bars with a soft copy of the video instead of black.

Does it add a watermark?

No. There's no watermark, no logo and no sign-up. The video is resized in your browser and saved straight to your device.

Will the quality drop?

The video is re-encoded, which costs a little detail, and the tool uses a generous bitrate to keep that small. A small source video, like 720p, won't gain detail by being made 1080 × 1920; it only gets bigger.

TikTok won't take my file. What can I do?

Very large or long files can fail to upload, especially on mobile data. Resize here first, then use the video compressor if the file is still big, or trim it to the part you want to post.
