How to convert HEIC to PNG

  1. Add your HEIC photos. Drop them on the box or choose them. AirDrop or a USB cable gets them from the iPhone to a computer as .heic files.
  2. Keep PNG selected. The decoder loads the first time, so the first photo takes a few seconds.
  3. Download. Save each PNG, or all of them as a zip.

Frequently asked questions

Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?

JPG for sharing, uploading and printing: it's much smaller and opens everywhere. PNG when you'll edit the photo several times, or an app asks for PNG. A PNG of a 12 MP iPhone photo is often 15 MB or more, against 2 to 4 MB for a JPG.

Does PNG keep the full quality of the HEIC?

PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel of the decoded photo with no further loss. HEIC itself is already compressed, so the PNG can't be better than the original, only identical to what you see.

Does it keep Live Photos, depth or HDR?

No. The converter saves the main still image. Live Photo motion, depth maps and extra HDR data in the HEIC file aren't carried over to PNG.

Why are my iPhone photos HEIC?

Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency) by default because the files are about half the size of JPG. You can change it in Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible, which saves new photos as JPG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The HEIC decoder runs in your browser and the PNG is made on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
