How the countdown to 12 am works
The countdown runs to the next time your clock shows 12 am. If it's earlier than 12 am now, that's later today; if it's 12 am or later, it's 12 am tomorrow. The hours, minutes and seconds update every second.
It works out the time on your own device, in your own time zone, so nothing is looked up online and the answer is right wherever you are. If your device's clock is wrong, the countdown will be off by the same amount.

12 am is 00:00 on the 24-hour clock, the first minute of the day. It's in the morning: am times run from 12 am (midnight) to 11:59 am.
12 am is midnight, the very start of a new day. The minute before it is 11:59 pm on the day before. To avoid any doubt, timetables and contracts often write 00:00 or 12:00 midnight instead, or use 11:59 pm for the end of a day.
12 am is 12 o'clock at night. Half an hour later is 12:30 am.

Is 12 am midnight or noon?
12 am is midnight, the start of the day (00:00). 12 pm is noon (12:00). An easy way to remember: am runs from midnight to just before noon, so the day starts at 12 am.
Is it counting to 12 am today or tomorrow?
Today, if your clock hasn't reached 12 am yet. Once it has, the countdown switches to 12 am tomorrow, so it never shows a time that has passed. The line under the clock says which one it is.
Does the countdown use my time zone?
Yes. It reads the clock and time zone on your own device, so 12 am means 12 am where you are. For 12 am in another city's time, use the countdown to a date and pick that time zone.
How many minutes until 12 am?
