  • Faces a similar size. Someone small at the back is the person most likely to change.
  • Daylight or even indoor light. Dark, grainy party photos give the app little to work with.
  • A full-size photo, not a screenshot or a forwarded copy that has been compressed.

Keeping everyone’s face the same

  • Fix one person at a time. Reply with a position and a feature: “The girl on the left looks different; make her face match the original photo exactly. Change nothing else.”
  • Keep the order. Asking for the same left-to-right order as the photo stops the app from rearranging people and swapping faces between them.
  • Coordinated beats identical. When everyone wears the same outfit, faces are the only thing telling people apart, and apps sometimes blend them. Matching colours with different clothes is safer.
  • Start fresh when it drifts. After several edits in one chat, faces tend to wander further. Open a new chat, upload the original again and use your best prompt.
  • Big groups are a gamble. The more people in the photo, the less reliable the faces. For a big family, try the grandparents, parents and children as separate smaller groups.

How to use the prompts

  1. Open Gemini or ChatGPT and attach the photo. Use the attach or plus button in the message box.
  2. Paste a prompt. Fill in [number] and change clothes or colours to suit your family.
  3. Send, then refine. Ask for one change per message, such as “add snow outside the window”.
  4. Crop if needed. Apps treat the ratio as a wish. Crop the result for a card or post.
