How to convert PNG to JPG
- Add your PNG files. Drop them on the box, choose them from your device or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
- Check the settings. JPG is already selected. Set the quality and the colour that replaces transparent areas.
- Download. Save each JPG, or all of them as a zip. Width and height stay the same.
When to convert PNG to JPG
To make a file smaller. PNG stores every pixel exactly, which makes photos and screenshots of photos large. JPG throws away detail you can't easily see, so the same picture is often several times smaller.
When a form or website only accepts JPG. Many job portals, exam forms and older upload pages accept only .jpg or .jpeg files.
When not to: logos, icons and anything that needs a see-through background should stay PNG. Text-heavy screenshots also look crisper as PNG; if size matters, try WebP instead.
PNG and JPG compared
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Lossless | Lossy, adjustable quality |

Tips
- Need the JPG under a size limit such as 100 KB? Convert here, then use the image compressor with a target size.
- Converting the same JPG again and again loses a little quality each time. Keep the PNG as your original.
- If you see a white box around a logo after converting, the PNG had a transparent background. Choose the colour of the page it will sit on.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to the transparent background when I convert PNG to JPG?
JPG has no transparency, so every see-through pixel is filled with a solid colour. The converter uses white by default, which suits documents and most websites. Pick black or any other colour before you convert if the image will sit on a dark page.
Will the JPG be smaller than the PNG?
For photos and screenshots with lots of colour, usually much smaller: often a fifth to a tenth of the PNG size at quality 90. For simple graphics with flat colours and sharp text, a PNG can already be small, and the JPG may come out about the same or show soft edges around text.
What quality should I choose?
90 is a good default: hard to tell apart from the original and much smaller. Use 80 when you need a smaller file for email or a form. Below 70, edges and gradients start to show blocky patches.
Can I convert many PNG files at once?
Yes. Drop as many as you like. Each file is converted on your device and you can download them one by one or all together as a zip.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion uses your browser's own image encoder on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it also works for screenshots with private information.
