How to convert WebP to JPG
- Add your WebP files. Drop them on the box or choose them from your downloads folder.
- Check quality and background. JPG is selected. 90 is a good quality; the background colour only matters for transparent images.
- Download. Save each JPG or all of them as a zip.

About WebP
WebP is an image format from Google, built for the web. It supports both lossy and lossless compression and transparency, and photos are 25 to 34% smaller than comparable JPG files, according to Google's own comparison. That's why sites use it. JPG is older and less efficient, but it opens in practically every program, camera, printer and form, which is why converting is still often the easiest fix.
Tips
- If the JPG is too big for a form, compress it to a target size such as 100 KB afterwards.
- Saved an image as .webp but need it in a document? JPG pastes into Word, Google Docs and PowerPoint everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Why do images download as WebP?
Many websites serve WebP because it's smaller than JPG at the same quality, so pages load faster. When you save an image from those sites, you get the WebP file the site sent.
Why can't I open or upload a WebP file?
Browsers and recent versions of Windows, macOS, iOS and Android can show WebP, but some older photo editors, printers, office software and upload forms still only accept JPG or PNG. Converting to JPG fixes that.
Does converting WebP to JPG lose quality?
A little, because JPG is lossy too. At quality 90 the difference is very hard to see. If the WebP has transparent areas, they're filled with the background colour you choose, as JPG can't store transparency; use PNG to keep them.
Can I convert animated WebP?
Only the first frame is converted, because JPG holds a single picture. For animations, a GIF or video format is needed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The converter uses your browser's own decoder and encoder on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
