| 2026 | April 5 | Sunday | April 12 |
| 2027 | March 28 | Sunday | May 2 |

How the date of Easter is set
Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon, the first church full moon on or after March 21. Churches use fixed tables for this moon, not the real one in the sky, so the date can be worked out for any year. It always falls between March 22 and April 25.
The extremes are rare. Easter was last on March 22 in 1818 and next will be in 2285; it was last on April 25 in 1943 and next will be in 2038.
Orthodox churches use the same rule with the older Julian calendar, so Orthodox Easter is usually one to five weeks later, and in some years, such as 2028, on the same day.
More on how moving holidays are worked out: why holidays like Easter, Diwali and Eid move every year.
Is Easter a day off?
Easter Sunday is always a Sunday. Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada (Good Friday), Germany and many other countries. In the US, neither is a federal holiday.
The days around Easter set other dates too: Mothering Sunday is three weeks before it, and Ash Wednesday 46 days before.
Planning around it? The working days in the answer box count Monday to Friday only. Take out any public holidays in between, or use the date calculator to count from another date.

Frequently asked questions
What day of the week is Easter 2027?
Easter 2027 is on Sunday, March 28, 2027. In 2028 it falls on Sunday, April 16, 2028.
Why does Easter change every year?
Because it follows the moon: it is the Sunday after the first full moon of spring. The full moon moves about 11 days earlier each year against the calendar, and then jumps back.
When is Easter Monday?
The day after Easter Sunday. It is a public holiday in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Australia, Germany, France and many other countries, but not in Scotland or the US.
Why is Orthodox Easter on a different date?
Orthodox churches work out Easter with the Julian calendar, which is now 13 days behind the Gregorian one, and with older moon tables. Their Easter is the same day or later, never earlier.
Why does the live clock show one day less than the days count?
The days count is calendar days: tomorrow is 1 day away. The clock counts real time to midnight at the start of Easter, so with Easter two days away it shows 1 day and some hours. Both are right; they answer slightly different questions.
