How to compress a video to 100 MB
- Add the video. Drop it on the box or choose it. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV work, including iPhone and Android videos.
- Leave the limit on 100 MB. Fit under a size is already selected. Type another number in Other size if your app or site differs.
- Pick a resolution for longer clips. Keep the original for short clips. Choose 720p or 480p for longer ones, or when a result says Still over.
- Compress, watch and download. The bar shows the new size against the limit. Play the result before you send it.
Who needs 100 MB
Use this page when a site or form you're uploading to says 100 MB, or when you want a long recording small enough to send without waiting. WhatsApp takes documents up to 2 GB, but a 100 MB file is far quicker to send on mobile data than a 400 MB original.
100 MB is a roomy budget: about 13,300 kbps for a minute and 4,400 kbps for three. Our 3-minute 1080p clip, 360 MB at 16 Mbps, came down to 94.4 MB and stayed 1080p. A video that is already under 100 MB is left exactly as it is.
What fits in 100 MB
We ran 1080p sample clips through this page in Chrome on a Mac, all at 16 Mbps, close to what many phones record. The busy ones are a constant zoom into fine detail with light grain, about as hard as footage gets. The calm one is a slow pan over a still scene, closer to someone talking to the camera.
| Sample clip | Before | Resolution | After | Fits? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 s, busy | 66.2 MB | 1080p | 66.2 MB | Already under, original kept |
| 1 min, busy | 123.7 MB | 1080p (kept) | 94.1 MB | Yes |
| 1 min, calm | 121.6 MB | 1080p (kept) | 94.0 MB | Yes |
| 3 min, busy | 360.4 MB | 1080p (kept) | 94.4 MB | Yes |
"Still over" means the browser's encoder wouldn't go that low at that resolution: choose a lower one and compress again. Sizes here are millions of bytes, as the limit is counted; under your file they show in 1,024-byte units, so 9.4 MB reads as 9.0 MB.
Tips for long clips
Ten minutes needs a lower resolution. 100 MB over ten minutes is about 1,300 kbps, where 720p or 480p looks cleaner than 1080p. Pick one under Resolution before you compress.
Trim the long bits. A recorded talk or a school event often has minutes of waiting at the start. Trim video removes them, in fast mode without re-encoding, and leaves more of the 100 MB for what matters.
Check the length first. Video info shows the length, resolution and bitrate, so you can tell how much compressing a file needs before you start.

Frequently asked questions
How many minutes of video fit in 100 MB?
At 1080p, three minutes of busy footage fitted at 94.4 MB in our test, about 4,000 kbps. Busy 1080p needed at least about 2,800 kbps in our tests, which 100 MB allows for roughly four minutes. Beyond that choose 720p, and 480p for ten minutes or more.
My video is already under 100 MB. What happens?
It's kept exactly as it is, and the page tells you before you start. Our 30-second clip was 66 MB, so there was nothing to do.
Can it handle a big file, like 1 GB?
We tested a 360 MB, 3-minute clip, which took under a minute on a laptop. Larger files take longer and use more memory; on a phone, close other apps first. Nothing is uploaded, however big the file.
