How to compress an image to 10 KB

  1. Add your photo. Drop it on the box above, choose it from your device, or paste it.
  2. Leave the limit on 10 KB. It's already typed into Other size. Change it if your form asks for something different.
  3. Check and download. The gauge shows the new size against the limit. Use Compare to check the quality, then download.

Who needs a 10 KB image

10 KB is mostly asked for signatures. Protean's online PAN application with scanned images is one example: its scanning specifications allow a signature of at most 10 KB, a colour JPEG scanned at 200 DPI to 2 × 4.5 cm, and a photo of at most 20 KB (checked 10 October 2026). A signature is mostly plain paper, so it fits in 10 KB easily, often at 600 pixels wide or more.

Photos are a different story. 10 KB is only enough for a face photo about 250 to 300 pixels wide, and even then the quality setting has to drop far enough that skin and hair look soft. That works for a small form thumbnail, not for a portrait. A page of text is not readable at 10 KB at all.

Check whether 10 KB is the maximum or the minimum. SSC and IBPS forms ask for a signature between 10 and 20 KB, so a file under 10 KB is rejected there. For those, use the 15 KB page instead.

Rough pixel sizes that fit under 10 KB while still looking good. Busy, detailed photos come out smaller.

Tips for a sharper result

Clean up a signature before compressing it. A phone photo of paper has grey shadows and texture, and those cost bytes. The Signature resizer turns the paper pure white and the ink solid, which leaves a sharper signature well inside 10 KB, and it can also set the exact pixel size a form asks for.

For a photo, crop to the head and shoulders first. The tool shrinks the picture until it fits, so every pixel of wall or room you leave in takes space away from the face.

Frequently asked questions

Can a photo really be 10 KB?

Yes, but only a small one. Expect about 250 to 300 pixels wide with visibly softer detail. If the form accepts 20 KB, use that instead: the face comes out noticeably clearer.

My form says 10 KB to 20 KB. Should I use this page?

No. In that range 10 KB is the minimum, and a file just under 10 KB is rejected as too small. Use the 15 KB page so the file lands in the middle of the range.

What size should a PAN card signature be?

Protean's scanning specifications for the online PAN application ask for a colour JPEG signature of at most 10 KB, 2 × 4.5 cm at 200 DPI, which is about 354 × 157 pixels. Check the page for your application type before you upload.

Is 10 KB 10,000 or 10,240 bytes?

Forms differ, so the tool keeps the file under 10,000 bytes. That passes whichever way the form counts. The exact size is shown next to each file before you download.
