Who needs a 40 KB image
When a form allows up to 50 KB, 40 KB keeps more detail than 30 KB while staying clearly under the cap. The IBPS PO/MT-XVI notification (30 June 2026) uses a 20 to 50 KB range for two uploads: the photo, 200 × 230 pixels preferred, and the left thumb impression, 240 × 240 pixels at 200 DPI (3 × 3 cm) preferred (checked 10 October 2026).
40 KB means under 40,000 bytes, which Windows shows as 39 KB. Even a portal that counts a KB as 1,024 bytes sees a file about 10 KB below a 50 KB limit. A phone photo at 40 KB is usually around 550 to 700 pixels wide.
Typical dimensions at 40 KB
Rough pixel sizes that fit under 40 KB while still looking good. Busy, detailed photos come out smaller.
| Image | Fits at about |
|---|---|
| Face photo, passport shape | around 520 × 680 px |
| Thumb impression at 240 × 240 px | fits at full quality |
| ID card photographed flat | around 750 × 480 px |
Tips for a sharper result
For a thumb impression, press an inked thumb firmly on plain white paper, then photograph it from straight above in daylight. The ridges are fine detail: compression can't sharpen a smudged print, but 40 KB keeps a clear one clear.
These forms want JPG. The tool saves photos as JPG automatically, but a WebP file, or an image with see-through areas such as a PNG cut-out, stays WebP. Open More options and set Format to JPG if the form only takes JPG.

Frequently asked questions
The limit is 50 KB. Should I pick 40 KB or 50 KB?
Both are accepted. The 50 KB page lands at about 46 to 49 KB. 40 KB is the better choice if the portal is fussy about the exact limit, or if you want a margin in case you crop or edit the file again later.
How do I compress a thumb impression for IBPS?
Photograph the impression, crop it to a square around the print, and drop it here. If it's still over 40 KB, the tool lowers the quality and then the pixel size. IBPS prefers 240 × 240 pixels and needs 20 to 50 KB, so check the KB shown next to the file is above 20.
Will a 40 KB photo look better than a 30 KB one?
A little. With a third more bytes, the tool can keep about 15 percent more width and height, or a higher quality setting at the same size. The difference shows most in hair and fabric.
Is 40 KB enough for a document?
For a small card such as an ID card, yes. A full A4 page of text gets hard to read at 40 KB; use 100 KB or more for that if the form allows it.
