How to compress an image to 150 KB

  1. Add your photo. Drop it on the box above, choose it from your device, or paste it.
  2. Leave the limit on 150 KB. It's already typed into Other size. Change it if your form asks for something different.
  3. Check and download. The gauge shows the new size against the limit. Use Compare to check the quality, then download.

Who needs a 150 KB image

Some forms allow far more than the classic 20 or 50 KB. NTA's JEE (Main) 2026 Information Bulletin asks for a photograph between 10 and 200 KB, a signature between 10 and 100 KB and, for candidates not verified through Aadhaar or DigiLocker, an identity proof image between 10 and 200 KB, all in JPG (checked 10 October 2026). 150 KB gives a sharp photo and a readable ID scan with 50 KB to spare.

A phone photo at 150 KB is usually around 1500 to 2000 pixels on the long side, and a plain portrait often keeps its full size. That's far more than a form displays, so the result looks the same as the original on screen.

Typical dimensions at 150 KB

Rough pixel sizes that fit under 150 KB while still looking good. Busy, detailed photos come out smaller.

Tips for a sharper result

JEE's bulletin also asks for a recent colour photo with 80 percent of the face visible, ears included, against a white background. Compression doesn't change any of that, so take the right photo first and then bring it under the size.

For an ID card, lay it flat on a dark surface, photograph it without flash so there's no glare, and crop to the card's edges before compressing. Glare hides numbers whatever the file size, while cropping lets the tool keep more pixels on the text.

Frequently asked questions

The form allows 200 KB. Why compress to 150 KB?

Either works: the 200 KB page lands at about 190 to 199 KB, which is also accepted. 150 KB leaves a margin, uploads faster on a slow connection, and also fits forms with a lower cap.

Is 150 KB enough for a clear document scan?

For one page, yes. A page of normal-size text stays readable at 150 KB, and an ID card is very clear. For a multi-page document, make a PDF instead if the form takes one.

Can I use this for the JEE signature?

The JEE Main 2026 bulletin allows a signature of 10 to 100 KB, so 150 KB is too large. Use the 50 KB or 100 KB page for the signature.

My photo is 4 MB. Will it look worse at 150 KB?

Not in a way you'll notice on screen. Use Compare to check a detailed area such as hair before you download.
