How to compress an image to 15 KB
- Add your photo. Drop it on the box above, choose it from your device, or paste it.
- Leave the limit on 15 KB. It's already typed into Other size. Change it if your form asks for something different.
- Check and download. The gauge shows the new size against the limit. Use Compare to check the quality, then download.
Who needs a 15 KB image
15 KB is rarely a limit on its own. It's a target. Exam forms often give a range rather than a maximum, and a file in the middle of the range can't fail on either end. The SSC CGL 2026 notice (21 May 2026) asks for a signature of 10 to 20 KB at about 6.0 × 2.0 cm, and the IBPS PO/MT-XVI notification (30 June 2026) asks for 10 to 20 KB at 140 × 60 pixels, preferred (both checked 10 October 2026).
At 15 KB a signature can be large and sharp, often over 1000 pixels wide straight from a phone photo. A face photo comes out around 300 to 400 pixels wide.
Typical dimensions at 15 KB
Rough pixel sizes that fit under 15 KB while still looking good. Busy, detailed photos come out smaller.
| Image | Fits at about |
|---|---|
| Signature strip, 3:1 like SSC's 6 × 2 cm | 600 × 200 px or more |
| Signature at IBPS's 140 × 60 px | fits, but often under 10 KB |
| Face photo, passport shape | around 300 × 400 px |
Tips for a sharper result
Compression only makes files smaller. A clean signature at 140 × 60 pixels is usually only a few KB, which is under the 10 KB minimum, and this tool keeps a file that's already under 15 KB as it is. Make it bigger instead: use a larger pixel size in the same shape, such as 280 × 120, or start from the original phone photo or a 200 DPI scan rather than an already shrunk copy.
Read the range on the upload screen as well as in the notice. If it differs, type the middle of the new range into Other size, such as 30 for a 20 to 40 KB range.

Frequently asked questions
The limit is 20 KB. Why aim for 15 KB?
Either works for a 10 to 20 KB range: the 20 KB page lands at about 19 KB, which is still inside. 15 KB is useful when one file goes to several forms with slightly different ranges, or when you want a clear margin above the 10 KB minimum.
My signature file is only 4 KB. How do I get it above 10 KB?
Give it more pixels. Resize it to a larger size in the same shape, or scan or photograph the signature again at a higher resolution, then check the KB shown next to the file. Don't add borders or noise to pad it: that makes the signature look worse.
How many pixels is a 15 KB image?
There's no fixed number, because it depends on what's in the picture. A signature on white paper can be well over 1000 pixels wide at 15 KB, while a detailed photo is around 300 to 400 pixels wide.
Can I make a 15 KB photo here too?
Yes. Drop the photo in and the tool lowers the quality, then the pixel size, until it fits under 15 KB. Crop away background first for a clearer face.
